We have changed everything around her to organic, including her clothes, diapers, mattress, sheets, and also bought an Austin air purifier.
She is much better now, suffering from less symptoms.
This mattress is absolutely wonderful. She has been sleeping on it through the night since she was 4 months old.
I highly recommend it.
Even though it is more expensive than traditional mattresses, but your baby is worth it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this mattress for my daughter as she transitions from her crib to a big girl bed. It was important to me that she have the most natural, non-toxic sleep environment possible and this is the least expensive mattress that meets my high standards. I thought I would sleep on it for a little while to see how comfortable it is. After a few nights, I had the worst pain in my neck and upper back. This mattress is so firm that it is like sleeping on the floor. OUCH! I am buying a plush mattress topper and wool mattress pad in hopes of making the mattress more comfortable.
I have heard that children (especially small ones) should sleep on firmer surfaces, but I think this one is too firm. After more reading, I found that girls tend to like softer mattresses than boys.
Here's hoping that a plush topper will make this mattress bearable!

(More customer reviews)I like the flannel sheets, but I was disappointed that they were not fully elastic as described, they only have elastic at the ends. Also after just one washing there is a small area were the elastic is seperated from the flannel. The flannel feels soft and warm.

(More customer reviews)This is a great mattress. Firm, yet comfortable. It is rather heavy (compared to a foam mattress). It is not waterproof in any way, but that has not caused us any problems so far (we have used it for almost 2 years now). We use a washable waterproof cover over the mattress. Would definitely buy it again, if needed. It appears to be made entirely of natural coir fiber, covered with a cotton batting (I don't think there are any chemical fire retardants added, which some say may contribute to SIDS).

Natural Mat Mohair Mat Review

After much research, I found out that a lot of the popular brands, like Naturepedic, are not 100% organic. So it was going to be a Natural Mat. Between the Cocomat, Latex, and Mohair that this company offers, it seemed that the Mohair mat was the most firm after reading all the reviews. I couldn't find any local retail stores that carried this brand so I had to be pretty sure that I was going to make a big purchase like this. This mattress is very firm and well made. I know that I'll be using this for my second child. It fits perfectly in my standard sized crib (Sorelle Commuter Crib). But I have to take one star off because I noticed that the position my baby sleeps in, after only a week, has a very slight dip. I'm not expecting it to completely spring back to its shape, obviously because it isn't a spring mattress, but I don't want it to lose its shape over time. I wasn't expecting it to do this after only a week. I'm just hoping that it isn't permanently compressed like this, and frequent flipping and rotating of the mattress will help.

(More customer reviews)I love this mattress and was super excited to find an organic mattress for our baby. Most mattress are only partially "organic" and still treated with harmful fire chemicals or stuffed with polyester.
The cover is beautiful. So much so I was afraid to remove it from the plastic :). There was no smell when first removed from the package.
I will definitely purchase again for the next little one. (Although, I think this one has not as many springs as I would like. Next time I will probably opt for the one with 5oo coils...)
I believe this brand of mattresses are also available on ebay and with a little more info about the maker.

Pixel Organics 100% Organic 260 Coil Inner Spring Crib Mattress Review

(More customer reviews)I like the fact that it's 100% organic but the mattress smelled a bit like formaldehyde when package first opened. If no chemicals were used, where is the smell coming from? They even advertise it as "no fumes." Mattress is suppose to be new but has pilling and the tag is worn. I'm not too confident that I got a brand new mattress when all of the above (smell, pilling, worn tag) are taken into consideration. It took several days for the smell to resolve. Other than that, the cover is very soft and the mattress is firm as should be. I just hope it really is 100% organic, otherwise I just wasted a lot of money.

(More customer reviews)This mattress is GREAT! I had originally bought a regular crib mattress from BabiesRus. It seemed really good for the price - firm, but not too uncomfortable for baby. Then, I started researching cribs and stumbled upon information about cribs and especially crib mattresses containing chemicals that leach formaldehyde. The mattresses are worse, though, since it is the law that they be flame retardant. Many chemicals are put into these mattresses, including roach killer, arsenic and antimony, and solid petroleum. Babies spend SO much of their time in them, in VERY close proximity. There is even research to suggest that a leading cause of SIDS is these chemicals that the babies ingest.
So, while on the hunt for a healthier mattress, I saw many so called "organic" products. Naturepedic in particilar markets an "organic" mattress. But as with food and dairy industries, organic does not always mean so. Per the USDA, a product only has to contain 70% organic ingredients to use the phrase "organic" on its packaging. So, the mattress might be made with organic cotton, but there are still other components. And unless you have a doctor's prescription for no flame retartants, or have a mattress made with wool, a natural flame retardant (which this mattress has), you're still going to get the bad chemicals. So, for the same price as a Naturepedic with the bad chemicals, I got this mattress (found it on sale through another website, even though I'd have gladly paid Amazon's price!). It is made entirely of the following: A core of organic coir (coconut fibers), organic wool, and 2 unbleached cotton covers. The wool acts as a water barrier itself, so you don't have to use horrible vinyl mattress pads. (Vinyl is one of the most toxic plastics known). The wool is also anti dust mite. The mattress provides ventilation and maintains temperatures to stay warm or cool, depending on the needs.
The mattress fits perfectly in my Pali Paula crib (even better than the first mattress I purchased, since that one was a little short on the sides). It is firm, yet springy. This will be GREAT for use as a toddler mattress, since it will still be comfortable for a younger child. All in all, I believe I found the BEST crib mattress out there. This, coming from an "organic OCD" mother, as my husband calls me, is a very high praise.[...].

(More customer reviews)Our old mattress from our 4-year-old's crib didn't fit in our new crib (his old crib converted into his bed) so we had to get a new one and I wanted to try a less toxic one this time around. I am very pleased with this purchase; our old mattress was a coil one from a baby store that cost around seventy dollars if I recall correctly, and I thought at the time it was a good mattress. I was wrong; THIS is a good mattress. Very light, so will be easier to change sheets on, nice and firm and real solid feel to it (our old mattress was squishy on the sides except for where the metal frame is located) and all natural fibers - no vinyl or other icky materials that you don't want your baby snuggling up against all night long. Also, this fit the crib much better; nice and snug against the slats even though the platform on the crib is the kind that has the arms that the platform suspends from (which got in the way of our old coil mattress so that it wouldn't lay properly flat). I would highly recommend this mattress. Be sure to get a waterproof mattress pad for it, though - nothing waterproof about this one. I'm probably going to get the Naturepedic one. Baby's due in about 10 weeks, so I haven't tested it out yet, but I think the baby will like it just fine.
