(More customer reviews)Our name-brand spring mattress was too firm and uncomfortable for me, but was comfortable for my husband. Rather than buying an expensive bed with different firmness options on each side, I began looking into twin-size viscoelastic mattress toppers, figuring that I could place one on just my side of our queen-size bed. I ended up buying this one just over a year ago because it is 4-lb foam (as opposed to the 2.5-lb. foam used in many of the cheaper toppers).
Using this topper on just half of a queen-size bed (a use for which it is not specifically designed) does have its aesthetic drawbacks: when you look at the bed, my side is noticeably higher than my husband's side, and you can also clearly see that the topper overhangs the edge of the bed by quite a bit. So if a neatly made bed is important to you, this solution may not be for you. (Of course, if you buy a topper that actually fits the entire top surface of your mattress, the appearance will probably be much neater; I'm only describing the way a twin-size topper fits one-half of a queen-size bed.) Nevertheless, it has provided us with an affordable alternative to buying a completely new mattress.
Some people who buy toppers like this one seem to regard the improvement in their sleep comfort level as near-miraculous; perhaps their beds were worse to begin with, because I wouldn't go that far in my praise. However, the topper has definitely helped me sleep better and more comfortably. I am able to lie in a given position for a much longer period of time, and I no longer wake up constantly in order to turn over. I have had this topper for over a year now, and it is holding up extremely well; I can't yet detect any decrease in comfort.
Finally, a word or two about the smell of viscoelastic foam: With this topper, I found that the smell did gradually go away; I don't remember how long it took to do so, but I think it was probably at least a couple of weeks before it dropped to a level where I ceased to notice it. If you are sensitive to smells, you may find that you notice it for longer than that, so please do take that into consideration when buying memory foam bedding.
If you need a new bed, get a new bed. However, if you have a perfectly good bed that is just a bit too firm for you, a viscoelastic mattress topper like this one may be just the ticket.

I didnt tell him I had purchased this as a gift to him. He had been really complaining about the mattress pad I had on the bed for him, for months. (More customer reviews)I purchased the mattress, put it on top of my box springs, after about a week I started to sink into the middle, left negative feedback to the seller which he responded to , he ask me what I had it sitting on, I have it on box springs, box springs wont work. I got a couple 30 x80 inch pieces of plywood slid between mattress and box springs, that made all the difference in the world. you can't use just box springs, you will sink into the middle and have to pull your self out in the morning. seller was helpful in resolving problem. I am content with it now. it performs like it did when it was new. be sure to put a piece of plywood between box springs and mattress.

(More customer reviews)I have a european platform bed with a single mattress supported by wooden slats... Love the bed and the original mattress, which was designed for a platform bed, still does it's job in spite of the fact that I originally wanted a foam mattress and never purchased one.
The current mattress is still supportive but not nearly what I needed with an increasingly arthritic back.
I discovered by sleeping on the foam mattress in my trailer that I slept much better, with no pain and woke up with a far stronger back that I didn't have walk the pain out of, for 2 hours, after waking, when I slept on the firm, foam trailer mattress.
I was about to bite the bullet and purchase a firm, latex, foam 700 dollar mattress for my bed at home when I found this item.
It arrived with some odor so I aired it outside for 5 days before taking it indoors. The odor was gone by that point. The minimal sun exposure turned one side the amber color, like in the photo above while the unexposed side stayed white. My bed is now uniformly very firm and feels like a new, latex foam mattress. No lumps, bumps, uneven spots or uneven firmness.. Perfect in every way.... I now wake up, -- SPRING up, ---happy and pain free. One review here said that the topper was so firm that, if put on the floor, the person's body weight wouldn't cause the topper to depress enough so that the weight pressed through to the floor...
I was somewhat concerned about that review because it sounded just waaaaay too soft. I'm happy to report, that for a 190 pound male,.... the topper doesn't even squish a quarter inch with my full weight upon it..It is as EXTRA firm as anyone will EVER find in a foam topper....

(More customer reviews)I received this set 3 days ago and I've never slept as comfortable as I did this past 2 nights! There are some pros and cons tho in buying this memory foam:
1) The set arrived in a box and the foam was wrapped in plastic to keep it from 'inflating'. I suggest you open the box, remove the plastic wrap and allow the foam to 'breathe' right away so you can use it after 3-5 hours. That will remove the bad odor of the foam and have it to its real size.
2) The memory foam mattress pad was amazing. It made my semi-sunken at the middle mattress so soft and almost flat. Plus my shoulders and neck does not hurt as much anymore when I sleep on my side.
3) The pad was a little small than I expected tho. I purchased the full size pad and it is about 4- 6 inches less in width and 5-8 inches less in length compared to my full sized mattress.
4) I have to admit, the 2 pillows suck. As I quote my boyfriend, they are like pancakes that can easily get squished to flatness. So if you have the option to get the same mattress pad without the 2 pillows for a cheaper price, go get it.
Just sharing my rants and raves for this product. I hope this will help you decide.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for my wife when she was pregnant and suffering from back pain. It made a great difference and she sleeps much better now. I would strongly recommend it for someone who has a standard mattress that isn't doing the job, but doesn't want to replace the whole thing. It was certainly much more cost effective than buying an entire new mattress. I find it very comfortable as well.
Things to be aware of:
1. Do the research and find out what factors go into how well a foam mattress or mattress topper supports you. This is very important. The Cloud9 manufacturer web site has a good overview of how you should determine what density and thickness of mattress is right for you at [...]. There are other sources of advice on the Internet if you search for them.
2. Basically, the manufacturer indicates that the density (3.4/4.3/5.3) and the thickness of the topper should be considered in combination. If you weigh more than 250lbs you probably ought to be looking at the four inch topper for the extra support and pressure point relief. The 5.3 density will make that support firmer and you won't sink into the topper quite so much. If you weigh less you might achieve the same results with a thinner topper, and get away with a less dense one also if you like a softer feel.
2. Bear in mind that a four inch topper will add that much to the height of the mattress. You may need to get some new bedding.
3. This product is stinky to start with. It smells, well, rubbery, and needs a good bit of airing to get rid of it. I found Febreeze helped as well. A water proof mattress cover might help also. The smell does wear off eventually.
4. The vendor charges a fifteen percent disposal fee if you return the product within thirty days. I considered this an adequate risk and found I did not need to use the service.

(More customer reviews)I bought this because I absolutely needed something that could compensate for the worst mattresses ever made, the college dorm mattresses, (The one I was sleeping on actually has a tag that says prison industries!!!) Without a doubt this made up for the horrible mattress that I was sleeping on. This gave me plenty of support in the areas that I needed it. (I sometimes have problems with my back).
There are a few things that you have to consider when choosing one of these, besides the size. One is your susceptibility to the cold. This product is great for people who easily get cold in bed because it will keep you quite warm. If you live in a consistently warm climate you might want to give any thicker mattress foam a pass because this really does keep you warm, and supposedly the thicker it gets the warmer your body stays.
There is one drawback to purchasing this which will affect you for at least a few months. That is the smell. It was the most common complaint that I read about before I bought this product. Although describing a smell is like describing a colour, I will say this about the smell. Try to imagine a cleaning product type of smell that is, at first, very pungent, and I do mean very pungent. For some reason the materials used in making this create this smell. When you take it out of the box your first reaction is that there is no way you'll keep this and you are going to send it back in tomorrows post. However, it is recommended that you let it air out for at least 24 to 36 hours. I let mine air out in my parent's garage for 72 hours and to be honest it really doesn't matter how long you air it out the smell is going to be quite noticeable when it is on, underneath the sheets and you are standing off the bed, for at least a few weeks. While in bed you will have a faint smell for a few months. I am sure you are wondering then why it is that I gave it five stars. Although it has an odor, I did get used to it and even though it was very strong to begin with, I found that it was manageable. I have had it through two girlfriends (consecutive, girlfriends that is) and neither of them were too bothered to mention that it had a bad smell or that it interfered with either of their sleep. To me its worth living with the smell in order to receive the benefits of how it feels sleeping on this. The reason I spent so much time on the smell is because that seemed to be a very big concern for many people and I think it becomes a matter of personal preference in the end. Knowing what I know now about this product, I would but it again without any reservations.
It is unbelievably comfortable to sleep on. My only regret is that I gave it to my last girlfriend for her dorm room last fall. She loves it and I know I'm not getting that back. She actually told me recently that it had improved her sleep. I know that it improved mine. Using this product I did experience less pain in the morning and I didn't toss as much as I do without it.
A great thing about this product is that it retains its shape for a very long time and so far after two years has not seemed to degrade at all, as far as I can tell. I initially expected it to degrade by becoming flatter over time or thin out in certain spots (like the area around the hips or butt because of the constant pressure on the foam from that area of the body) but I have not noticed that at all.

(More customer reviews)I bought this topper after doing a lot of online research to replace an old, tired memory foam mattress topper we'd used for years. This foam is noticeably denser, and the four-inch depth is perfect for both me and my husband. The foam returns to its original shape fairly quickly, so you don't have to worry too much about rolling back into a cavern if you move around. My husband and I also don't notice if the other one moves around a lot on sleepless nights, since this topper effectively neutralizes all vibration.
The worst part about this pad is that it does add four inches to your mattress of course, so make sure your sheets and mattress cover can accommodate. Oh, and it's far too hard to get out of bed in the morning, since it's so comfortable -- but I can live with that.

(More customer reviews)These were sold to me on the basis that they are water proof, much more than just water resistant.
I have 6 of these, 3 have leaked-badly (the ones with kids who have occassional accidents). 2 matresses have been soiled and Southern textiles put the responsibility back on me. Did you use bleach washing it? What temp was your dryer? I cared for the product exactly according to their instructions. They replaced the leaky protectors and even one of those leaked. I have to use their chemical products to clean my matresses before they will even consider replacing them, if at all, and I am told that they will probably not, by their warranties dept.
Another problem with the protectors is that the elastic sides rip, 4 have done this, of the 6 I own. The rip starts with a small whole but eventually shreds, making it very difficult to put on to the matress.
I spent way to much money on this product. Hopefully you wont.

Sleep Innovations 3-Inch Sculpted Memory Foam Topper Review

(More customer reviews)I've purchased memory foam toppers before, some more expensive than this one. The last one was purchased at a "big box" store and while it is OK, it's not nearly what this product is. This has a sculpted top and it is much cooler to sleep on because of it and has TRUE memory foam, not some cut-rate wanna-be memory foam.
Although I've already taken several naps on it in my home, I have a full-size sleeper couch in my vacation cabin that came with a flimsy 3" foam mattress that wore out after only 2 years of very limited use. This topper will easily replace that entire mattress and I can't wait to try it out, providing I get a board to go over that deadly "bar" that usually wrecks even the strongest backs.
This topper came with a fabric cover that was fairly difficult to get on the mattress and the zipper does not intuitively start across the top corner, but rather starts down the side. It was quite a workout getting this on the mattress but after a struggle, I got it to fit - sort of. It does not seem to want to conform to the sides as nicely as I'd like. I suggest buying a quilted mattress cover with elastic sides, laying this topper over your current mattress and putting the quilted one on top. Keep the one that ships with the topper as a back up - or if you already have it on the mattress, just keep it there and never remove it. Taking it off of the topper to wash it (as another reviewer here does)? No way I'd hassle with that, a quilted cover would be much, much easier and would keep the other mattress cover clean underneath.
Be careful getting the mattress out of the poly wrap it's shrunk in, it would be easy to slice into it due to how tight it's wrapped. Use safety scissors with rounded tips. The mattress also has a wrap over the entire thing under the shrink wrapper which helps it stay clean while you are unpacking and unrolling it. Smart!
All in all, a great product and offered at a great price!
EDIT TO ADD: After sleeping on this topper (as a mattress alone using it on a sleeper couch with a 1/8" plywood board under it), I've never slept better in my vacation cabin. It fits perfectly in the old mattress space and folds up easily. Fantastic solution for a piece of furniture that I thought I'd have to give away.

I'd been wary of trying memory foam, given the wide variety of complaints about them (too small, smells bad, too hot, etc.), but now I wish I had given in sooner. This fits perfectly, lost its weird odor in about two days, and is cooler than just my unpadded mattress. And, while it doesn't make my mattress seem comfy enough to be brand new, its more than comfy enough to put off buying a new one a while longer.

(More customer reviews)First of all, sleeping on high quality memory foam is a dream. Perfect amount of support on anything you put on it. I put a 2" toppper on an 8 year old futon that you could feel the frame under it and it was like sleeping on my parents $5500 bed.
*Two Things* you have to know, density is everything. 3lb is cheap, 4lb is average and 5lb is premium. 2lb has no 'memory' to it thus very little support. Easy to push in and it basically comes back out instantly.
Second is...IT AGES. I'm on my second Serta 4lb topper and both were awesome until about 8 months before I noticed that there's less and less 'memory'. At 11 months, it feels like 2lb foam that doesn't provide a lot of support but rather foam you would think you'd pack stuff with. I compared areas that would be compressed often and the most to unused corners (near the feet) and there was some but very little difference. So it seems use isn't the factor but rather age. I stuck a glass object on it and measured the depth it sank and was going to measure the time it took to sink but it was basically instantaneous compared to when it was new when it would sink like somebody in quicksand (can you tell I'm an engineer...).
So memory foam...Awesome...but has a shelf life. Something to keep in mind when considering to go foam. I don't know if the mattresses have the same issue but if I had to guess, they would probably be less affected.
