(More customer reviews)I am going to be verbose here because when I was considering a new mattress topper, many of the reviews that I read were not informative enough for me to make an intelligent decision. I hope that I am sufficiently descriptive here that you can decide on the Cloud9 brand and this particular mattress topper.
The retailer has a description of the Cloud9 rating system: 5.3, 4.3, and 3.3, but it was difficult for me to anticipate how firm the mattress topper would be based on those numbers. I telephoned the retailer to get additional information and while they were polite and professional, they could not tell me much more about the rating numbers. Based on the Serta 2-inch mattress topper that I currently owned, I decided that the 4.3 would be an adequate choice. I should add that I have a Simmons BeautyRest mattress set with inner coils. The mattress is firm, actually a little too firm ... we could hardly feel the Serta 2-inch mattress topper.
The Cloud9 mattress topper arrived within 10 days of ordering it. It was well packaged and clean when we opened it. I knew about the smell that mattress topper foam has, but there was very little. Granted, it was perhaps 38 degrees when the topper arrived. I placed the topper unrolled in the garage for three days. I did the same with the Serta when I bought it and you could smell it when you entered the garage. Not so with the Cloud9. After three days, we placed to Cloud9 topper on our bed. The Serta topper was 2 - 3 inches shorter than our mattress, which gave you flat spots and allow the topper to move. The Cloud9 is nearly the exact measurement of the mattress, eliminating flat spots and it has yet to move in nearly a year. The Cloud9 was absolutely wonderful to lie upon, supportive and yet soft and enveloping.
The first night was great. The second night my wife and I had back pains. A few nights later, I had neck pains. It was confusing because we slept very comfortably. After thinking about my sore neck, I concluded that my spine was not properly aligned when I slept. I am a stomach sleeper and my wife sleeps on her side. I used firm BeautyRest pillows and my wife used down-filled pillows. On a hunch, I bought both of us memory contour pillows and the sore back/neck problem went away.
In summary, I have an excellent experience with the Cloud9 topper, granted that I had to change to memory contour pillows. My pros are: (1) topper is the same dimensions of my mattress, (2)topper is soft (enveloping) but yet supportive, (3) topper is cool, my wife and I never feel overheated by the bed, and (4) has the long warranty. The long con is that the rating system is not transparent and you have to somewhat guess which number is best for you. Given the shipping costs, guessing incorrectly could be expensive.
In regards to the warranty, I was expecting a receipt or statement of warranty to be included in the shipping box. There was none so I emailed the retailer and they immediately replied that all I had to do for warranty service was return the topper with proof of purchase. That was good to hear. Of course, the question begs to be asked, what is a warranty defect, the loss of foam memory?
I am very happy with this topper and I wholly recommend it. I remember how I scoured the reviews when trying to decide if this topper would work for me. I hope that my review has provided a little help to you in your research.
