Croscill Hibiscus European Pillow Sham Review

Croscill Hibiscus European Pillow Sham

I just had to say that one does expect good quality from Croscill, but the picture does no justice to the quality of this product. The sham is beautifully made, the edge or frill is in fact an elegant pleat and the fabric is a lovely heavy cotton. The stripes are also more pink than the picture shows. I was very pleasantly suprised and have absolutely no regrets about adding it to my Hibiscus collection.

Croscill's Hibiscus will transform your room with it's fresh innovative design, adorned with bold graphic prints. This ensemble features an enlarged floral motif in pink and green on an ivory ground, in a uniquely stylized design with artistic accents. The european pillow sham adds a fun complement to the Hibiscus bedding with it's vertical stripe in pink and ivory. For added detail, a 2-inch ruffle adorns all four edges of the european pillow sham. The pillow sham measures 27-inch wide by 27-inch tall and has a french back opening for easy pillow insertion. Coordinating bedding, window treatments, and decorative pillows are also available. The entire Hibiscus collection in machine washable, making for the easiest of care.

Bought the chocolate/natural version; and I'm very pleased with the color and quality of fabric. The only concern may be that since the fabric is very soft the flanges look a bit floppy after laundering.
Additional info from the package that was never mentioned in the amazon description: the fabric is 300-thread-count, which is pretty sweet for the sale price.

Luxurious bed linens in a luscious chocolate color and a rhythmic chain design are a treat for the bedroom. The sham is made to coordinate with Pinzon's Labyrinth collection, but it will easily enhance most any collection and décor as well. Both sides feature a grey base with a chocolate labyrinthine chain design. A 2-inch flange in solid chocolate is offset with chocolate sateen stitching. An envelope closure allows for easy pillow insertion and removal. Expertly woven in Portugal of 100-percent Egyptian cotton in a sateen weave, the sham is durable and easy to care for at home in the washer and dryer. The standard-size sham measures 20 by 26 inches, plus the 2-inch flange all around, and is also available in king size. In addition to the Chocolate/Grey color union, the sham is also available in a Chocolate/Natural color union for decorating options.
Fabric Definitions Egyptian Cotton: Egyptian cotton is used to make some of the highest quality linens in the world, including sumptuously soft bath and bed linens. Egyptian cotton is grown to produce a longer staple, or fiber, than generic cotton, and the longer and finer a cotton staple is, the better able it is to be spun into finer count yarns, which in turn can be knitted or woven into soft, fine, and luxurious fabrics. The staple length in Egyptian cotton averages 1-1/8 to 1-1/2 inches, but can reach over 2-1/4 inches, which is twice the size of a generic cotton fiber. Products which highlight construction of Egyptian cotton are usually referring to the extra-long-staple cotton produced largely in the Nile River Valley. The humidity and rich soil around the Nile delta produce especially long cotton fibers, which are fine and vary from a light cream to dark tan color. Egyptian cotton is strong, durable and, if cared for properly, will be long lasting.
Sateen: Sateen fabric has a supremely soft, satin-like finish resulting from a four-over-one thread weave. Standard weaves, like percale, use a one-over, one-under stitch. The four-over weave puts more threads nearer the surface, resulting in a softer, warmer surface. Sateen fabrics are most often made of mercerized cotton, but can be made of other fabrics, including cotton blends, polyester, and rayon. Mercerized threads give sateen fabrics a higher luster. Mercerization, named for process-creator John Mercer, involves treating threads with a cold concentrated sodium hydroxide solution. Mercerization also increases strength, dyeability, and resistance to mildew, as well as reduces lint. Sateens can be produced in light and heavy weights, and are ideal for bedding.
History of the Textile MillMarize was created in 1984 by Mr. Alvaro Faria for the production of tea-towels and tablecloths on dobby looms. Today, Fábrica de Tecidos Marizé Lda, or Marize for short, is renowned for producing fine jacquard bed linens as well as table linens. Always a family company, Mr. Faria's sons operate the business today. Equipped with 22 jacquard looms and a very flexible make-up station, Marize's weaving capacity is about 75,000 meters per month. Marize supplies some of the most well-recognized and reputable international brands with original designs, colors, and packaging.
History of the RegionPortugal's major textile factories are located in Guimaraes, which is known as the "cradle" or "birth city" of Portugal, since it is home to the castle of Portugal's first king. As one of the country's most historic cities with well-preserved monuments, Guimaraes is a popular tourist attraction. Among other sites to see are two squares with outdoor cafes and balconied houses, called Praça de Santiago and Largo da Oliveira. At Largo da Oliveira are the old Town Hall and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, with a Gothic shrine erected in 1340 standing before it. Pinzon Diamond Matelasse Boudoir Sham, Cream

This fabric (in cream) is exactly the same color as the photo. Creams and Ivories are always hard to purchase sight unseen, as the tones vary so much. This cream doesn't have too much yellow and the fabric is smooth and soft. It matches the Euro shams and coverlet perfectly, as well (as one would assume).
Just as a general FYI, this sham is only the cover...not the insert. I assumed that when I purchased it, but others may not know.

This soft, supple 160-gram flannel sham is the perfect accessory to Pinzon's flannel sheets and duvets. Expertly made in Portugal with 160 grams of cotton per square meter, the fabric is lightly brushed to give it the soft, warm flannel texture and is pre-washed for durability. For superior patterning on both sides, the fabric begins with yarn-dyed cotton that is woven into a wide array of colorful plaids. The standard sham measures 20 by 26 inches and has an envelope closure. Easy to care for, the sham can be washed and dried at home. Mix and match various colors and patterns from Pinzon's flannel, yarn-dyed flannel, and velvet bedding for a layered look with an ultra-soft feel.
Fabric Definition Flannel: Flannel fabrics are noted for their fuzzy softness, warmth, and durability, and they can be dyed or printed. Thought to have been popularized in Wales in the 17th century, flannel was an all-wool fabric made of woolen or worsted yarns, with a brushed surface and a soft napped finish obscuring its weave. Flannel may be plain woven or twill woven and, today, most flannel fabrics are made of cotton fibers or synthetic rayon fibers that are slightly napped on both sides to resemble the old woolen or worsted yarn weaves. A wide range of flannel weights and textures is available. The fabric weight and quality of the napping affect the warmth and softness of the fabric. Many people prefer flannel bedding during the cold, winter months, but some flannel weights are appropriate in breatheability and comfort all year long.

I purchased two of these shams to use as pillowcases. The pics don't do it justice. I was truly amazed at how beautiful they are in person. They are very well made also. When it came time to wash them I was worried. I loved them so much I was afraid they may shrink or fade but they didn't. They came out of the washer/dryer looking and feeling brand new. I could not be happier with this purchase and highly reccommend.

This decorative pillow sham is the perfect unifying touch for Pinzon\'s Provence collection, and it will easily enhance most any collection and décor as well. The soft, thick, quilted sham features a sophisticated blue scroll pattern on a white base, printed on both sides. A zippered closure allows for easy pillow insertion and removal. Expertly made in Portugal of 100-percent cotton in a percale weave, the sham is durable and easy to care for at home in the washer and dryer. The Euro-size sham measures 26 by 26 inches.
Fabric Definitions Percale: Percale woven fabrics provide a clean, crisp, cool feel, a perfect match with bed linens. Percale weaves can be made of any fiber but are usually cotton or a cotton/polyester blend. The fibers are tightly woven in a plain weave, meaning the warp and weft threads cross each other one at a time. This one-over, one-under weave is what makes a fabric Percale. Percale clothing usually runs around 80 square (80 threads by 80 threads), or 160 threads per square inch. Heavy grades in higher counts are used for bed sheeting. Percale sheets are high quality, smooth, and soft, since the fibers comprising the thread are usually first combed (opened and cleaned of impurities) and carded (separated into individual, cleaned fibers). Percale sheets have a thread count of at least 180 threads per inch and commonly run to over 200 threads per inch. Percale sheeting was first made in 1876 by Wamsutta Mills in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Percale fabric is rugged and versatile, with many uses now in clothing, curtains, and bedding.
There are many legends about its origins, but a popular story says it marks the spot where Wamba, elected king of the Visigoths, refused his title and drove a pole into the ground swearing that he would not reign until it blossomed, and it sprouted immediately. Guimaraes hosts an annual 3-day festival of medieval art and costume in the first week of August, which dates from the middle of the 15th century and includes a torchlight procession and a medieval parade. Not only renowned for textiles and historical sites, Guimaraes is in the heart of the "Vinho Verde" region, so called for its locally produced fresh, young "green wines."
