I spotted the Go Crib the ABC Expo 2009. My heart skipped a beat as I walked closer. It was a portable crib that shrank up to the size of a backpack. Born out of a business school project, the Go Crib better have earned an A. The crib works the same way as an inflatable mattress with an included electric pump. The similarities stop there. Each leg of the crib is its own separate chamber so you will move the pump to four separate valves. The material of the chambers and the external covering is super strong - the same fabric they use for wind boarding. Once inflated you can see the sides are made of mesh including one side that zips down if you want the baby to be able to crawl in and out. There is also an inflatable mattress of the same technology that fits standard size portable crib sheets but has a great full fitted sheet from their own line.
After my first experience with the Go Crib I had a few questions and thoughts for the inventors. Lucky for me the inventors were at the ABC Expo 2010 and I could ask away. My first concern was the puncturing of the chambers by accident by a child with a sharp toy. It was explained to me that the chambers with the air in it were actually inside the outer shell - not part of it. So if the outer shell was punctured the inner would chamber would remain unharmed. Second it would take a deliberate slashing of the the crib by an adult and sharp knife to puncture the inner chamber. A child would not have the ability to do it. If by chance one chamber deflate the other three remain untouched.
Aside from my now answered safety questions I had a few thoughts about accessories that would make the Go Crib that much more usable. Again, the inventors had already addressed it (I like to think it was the input I gave them last year). First off was mosquito netting. My camping experience told me that bugs like to feed on me. It is nice to know that a baby dozing would be protected from the little "buggers." The other issue was some sort of sun shade. They have now developed an inflatable shade to protect the little one from the sun.

Guava Family GoCrib In Brown/GreenDon't put your active lifestyle on hold when you have a new baby. You should have the freedom to continue to seek adventure, travel, visit, and play, just as you had before. The GoCrib gives you this freedom.
The GoCrib is a standard size, ultra-portable travel crib that packs into a lightweight backpack for ultimate freedom. Its rigid-inflatable structure sets up quickly, and creates a strong and safe environment for your baby anywhere you go. Take it on vacation or to grandma's. But, it's not just for overnight trips - take it to the park, the beach, a soccer game, a friend's house, or simply in the living room for day-to-day use...your baby still needs to sleep and play while you are on the go.
For Sleep, Play and Beyond:
The GoCrib creates a wonderful sleep and play area for your baby. The insulating mattress keeps them padded from the ground, and the strong, angled sides keep it stable and sturdy, even with your little one standing up or with siblings leaning against the sides. The closeable side door gives your child an easy way to crawl in and out so they think of it as a fun place to be (rather than a prison). This creates a familiar place for your baby so they will sleep well when on the go. And when they sleep well, you sleep well.
Easy Setup and Packing:
Set up is fast and simple with the included dual-action pump that inflates the crib in less than a minute. Its pressure gauge tells you when it is ready to use. To pack, the valves lock open to make deflation a snap. Once deflated, the GoCrib stuffs into its backpack just like a sleeping bag.
The GoCrib backpack enables hands-free portability, so you can still carry your baby and your diaper bag, or push a stroller. And it's so small that it takes up a fraction of the space in a car trunk and easily fits into the overhead compartment on an airplane.
