(More customer reviews)I purchased this as a recommendation from a friend, and due to the SIDs hype. My daughter is 5 months old, and so far so good regarding SIDs, but I wouldn't credit this mattress pad. I do find it odd that it's really just an extra thick plastic bag over our mattress, but it works just fine. I was able to get it on the mattress easily, and I placed a fitted sheet over it as recommended. Everything fits perfectly, and I do not hear that plastic sound as my daughter rolls around on her mattress. I have never heard a loud crinkle sound of plastic, and I don't even notice that it's on the mattress. Worth the money for me, since it helps me feel better that I am somehow reducing her chance of SIDs...

The Best Day Ever crib waterproof mattress cover is designed with an impermeable layer to prevent toxic gasses, allergens and the other hazardous chemicals (linked to SIDS, Autism, Asthma and Allergies) from reaching your baby. What makes the Serendipity Mattress Cover different from other mattress covers? * Unlike typical mattress covers, the Serendipity cover blocks toxic gasses, hazardous chemicals, and allergens in your babies' mattress. * The Serendipity Mattress Cover is made from an engineered pure polymer that contains no additives to leach into your babies sleeping environment. Vinyl and other types of plastic covers contain hazardous chemicals like fire retardants, plasticizers and biocides that can leach out of the cover creating a hazardous and potentially deadly environment for your baby. * Best Day Ever, the maker of the Serendipity Mattress Cover works with the non-profit No More SIDS Foundation to get mattresses covered at day care centers around the country. Best Day Ever donates one Serendipity Mattress Cover to No More SIDS Foundation for every cover it sells. These gasses have been linked to the cause of SIDS based on a 12-year study in New Zealand:"The simple facts are these: chemical compounds containing phosphorous, arsenic and antimony, which have been added to a baby's crib environment since the early 1950's, appear to play a major role and therefore represent a significant continuing danger to infants. This research has demonstrated that if a baby's mattress contains any of these elements, a common mold or mildew can interact with them, creating intensely poisonous gases." - Dr. D Denton David, MD"SIDS is called the 'mystery disease.' Understanding the gas theory explains away the mystery." - Joanne B Quinn, RMA, PhD
