Our mattresses seem to be firmer at the edges, so we can still feel a slight mound between the two mattresses. But the mound is soft and comfortable, no barrier to cuddling. The mattresses feel very secure together. This is a great product for us, as we couldn't fit a king-size bed up our stairs. This is almost as good as having a real king-sized bed.
